Petra Riojas

Petra Riojas, 72, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at her residence in Harlingen, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was an LVN and began her long nursing career at Valley Baptist Medical Center and retired 2 years ago from San Benito Medical Associates. She finished raising her siblings after her Mom passed away at her young age of 15. She was a strong advocate of education and made sure they finished school.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Amelia Ybarra Riojas and Celestino Riojas; her sister, Rebecca Alejandro and recently first cousin, Manuel Alvarez.

She is survived by her only son, Jose Armando Riojas, and her longtime companion, Arturo Fernandez. She is also survived by her siblings, Celestino (Josephine) Riojas, Jr., Rachel (Benito) Garcia, Raul (Elva) Riojas, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.
