David Gene Smith

David Gene Smith, age 99, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023. David was born in Harlan. He was a World War II veteran of US Army. After the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Josephine Fern Lowden, and had four children, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. David retired after 43 years with General Electric. David is survived by his three daughters: Vona (Joe) Grimes, Fort Wayne, IN, Gloria (Dan) Spears, Kokomo, IN, Mary Jane (Duane) Stagray, Linwood, MI. His sister Bethel (Ted) Wiebke, Ossian, IN. David is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Josephine Fern Lowden, his son, Brian David, his parents, Leonard and Florence. Three brothers, Dale, Stanley, and Donald and a sister, Virginia Richhart. Our father was loved by many for his quick mind and witty humor. Preferred memorials to: The American Heart Association, in memory of David Gene Smith, A visitation for David will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, 17629 State Road 37, Harlan, IN 46743.
