Shirley S. Booth, age 94, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2017 to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her childhood sweetheart, husband and soulmate, Clarence. Shirley was born January 13, 1923 in Belle Vernon, PA. After high school she attended the University of Pittsburg, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree and later she attended the College of William and Mary where she received her Master’s Degree.
Upon marrying Clarence, she traveled throughout the country, teaching school in Turkey and eventually ending up in Hampton at Langley AFB. At this time she began teaching in the Hampton City Public School system, retiring from Kecoughtan High School as Dean of Girls after many years of service. During her tenure she strived to provide fairness and compassion to those who touched her life.
Shirley is survived by her children, Bruce Booth and wife, Cassianne, Karen Opel and husband, Harry, and Jeff Booth and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Reva O’Hallarn and husband, Brendan, Stephen Booth and wife, Lynn, Alan Booth and Wyatt Booth; great-grandchildren, Summerlin O’Hallarn, Gene O’Hallarn, Caroline Booth and Madelynn Booth; granddogs, Comet, Paco, Pahala and Tiki; and her extended family.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on April 21, 2017 from 6-8 pm. The burial will occur at a later date in Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes expressions to be made in honor of Shirley Booth’s lifetime dedication to Hampton City Schools to Jones Planetarium, Attn: Susan Booth, 1819 Nickerson Blvd., Hampton, VA 23663.
