Richard Carl Coughenour

The Steelers have lost a loyal fan. Richard “Coke” Coughenour, a long time resident of Hampton and Yorktown, died after a hard fought brief illness on November 4th, 2023 at the age of 64. He was surrounded by the love of his family during his last moments.

Coke is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa; his children: Blakely Winterrowd of Chesapeake (Levi) and Logan Coughenour of Yorktown, and one beloved grandchild, Arlyene Winterrowd. He is also survived by his mother Sara Coughenour and father in-law Richard Lusk; his sisters Sue Martinez (Mike) and Anita Coughenour, and brother in-law Richard Lusk (Toni); and his nieces and nephews Sara Morgan (Andy), Justin Martinez, Brandon Mumford, Sara Mumford, and Clay Morgan. His best dog friend Bucco will miss going to the beach and watching sports by his side.

Coke was preceded in death by his father Richard Coughenour; his mother in-law Arlyene Lusk; his maternal grandparents Carl and Marian Blough and his paternal grandparents Archie and Verda Coughenour.

Coke spent many years down at the dock following in his father’s footsteps, kicking ass and taking names. Outside of work, Coke’s favorite pastime was watching sports. In fact, you couldn’t walk into his house without hearing ESPN on the TV. He watched it all but was most known for his commitment to the Pittsburgh three: Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. He enjoyed visiting his Pennsylvania family and while there always made sure to squeeze in a trip to the stadium to watch a game. During the rare moments there wasn’t a game on, Coke loved to read the newspaper and countless library books. He took his dogs Bailey and Bucco on long walks and had many friends in the neighborhood. On the weekends he enjoyed cooking for his family and was a grill master. His BBQ and cheese dip were just short of world famous and he loved to make what he called “fat burgers”. In the summer you could find him wherever the fish were biting. He and Logan had many fishing spots where they spent many hours bonding and testing their patience. Later in life, Coke’s dream was being a Grandpa and he spent the last three months of his life loving his granddaughter Arly. His family takes comfort in knowing one of his last memories was watching the Steelers beat the Titans with his son Logan and nephew Brandon and Facetiming with Arly as she cheered on the Steelers in her Steelers onesie.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the nurses, doctors, and staff at Riverside Regional Medical Center, especially Dr. Neel Patel and the comfort care staff on the fifth floor tower. The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hampton Baptist Church, with a reception to follow. There will be a private interment service with the family at a later date. The family asks that those attending wear black and yellow, or Pittsburgh jerseys in celebration of Coke’s lifelong commitment to the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.

Coke was a known animal lover and rescued many dogs throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the animal rescue of your choice.
