During her early years, she worked in the Hampton School System. In 1975, she began working as Administrative Assistant to the Administrator of Mary Immaculate Hospital. After leaving there, she worked in real estate for a number of years before God called her to dedicate her life to the ministry of others.
She completed Hampton Roads College and attended several other colleges in the area. Peggy began her counseling training through Grace Fellowship in Atlanta, GA, and Advanced Theophostic Ministry Training directly under Dr. Ed Smith.
For over 20 years, Peggy counseled in several churches and served on several boards, the last being Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge. She gave generously of her time and resources. She loved people and people were drawn to her.
In 2009, she was awarded an Honorary Associate of Science Degree in Church Ministry by Bethel College in Hampton.
For the last number of years, she led a large group of church members and friends, meeting each week for fellowship and lunch. Peggy loved Christmas and always made it special for her friends and family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Martel Hardy; her son-in-law, Ronald Whitley; and others.
We ask that you reflect and remember how Peggy lived her life—always loving and encouraging as she ministered to others.
She is survived by her daughter, Teri Whitley; two grandchildren: David Whitley (Heidi) and Dee Dee Fortier; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, she requests that you do something nice for someone else.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, followed by interment at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666.
