Maria was a native of Munich, Germany, but she made Hampton her home for the last 32 years. She had a long career as a manager for 7/11 convenience stores. She was immensely proud of her heritage, and when she wasn’t at work or with her family, she could be found at meetings for the German-American Society and the Frauen Club. Also, her involvement with ROTC earned her a spot in history; she could as well be called the “Betsy Ross of ROTC,” as she designed and hand sewn the first ROTC flag known as “The Foster Flag”.
She is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Calvin L. Foster. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Peggy Foster Harris (Steven) and Monika Foster; three grandchildren: Sheni Harris Mason, Stephanie Harris Greene, and Keisha Harris; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A celebration of life will occur at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Parklawn Memorial Park.
