Esther Cassandra Myrick Holland fell asleep in death on June 19, 2019 after a long illness. Esther, or Queen as she was affectionately called by some, was preceded in death by her parents William and Annie Myrick, husband Willie B. Holland and brother Ervin Myrick.
Esther taught for the Newport News Public School System for over 30 years until her retirement, but she did not retire from teaching. When she became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses she used new teaching skills to tell her family, friends and neighbors about the wonderful blessings Jehovah has in store for mankind from the bible.
Esther loved to travel going on many cruises and travelling overseas. As well as the love of her dogs, Diamond and Cee Cee, she loved her family dearly both physical and spiritual. She will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Rodney (Lisa) Myrick of Hanover, MD; two loving daughters: LaDonna Greene, Newport News, VA; Toni (Marlon) Carter, Harrisburg, PA; 3 sisters: Cynthia Graves, San Antonio, TX; Barbara Harris and Mary Ann Nelson of Newport News, VA; one uncle, Roger Myrick of Courtland, VA; 8 grandchildren – Tiara, Mylik, Jaevon, Asiya, Lakell, David, Tyrena, and Tiffany; 2 great-grandchildren – Eden and Jaycen; 3 sisters-in-law: Bernadine Myrick of Hampton, VA; Yvonne (Thomas) Jowers and Tammy (Edward) Watlington both of Newport News, VA; one brother-in-law, Larry (Vickie) Holland of Columbus, GA; along with a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home 2551 N. Armistead Ave Hampton, VA 23666.
