Charles William Rhodes

Charles William Rhodes, 84, of Hampton, Virginia, passed on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Frances Chaney Rhodes and parents, Drexall and Alice Rhodes.

He is survived by his daughter Tiffany Rhodes (Frank Braunger), beloved granddaughter Leah, sisters Deborah Joyner (Gary), Barbara Jones, many loving nieces and nephews and his devoted companion for the past 10 years, Sherrilyn Lawrence.

Mr. Rhodes was born August 1, 1938 in Bailey, NC. Following graduation from Bailey High School, he relocated to Virginia to start at the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School and join the Army National Guard. He held many supervisory positions with Newport News Shipbuilding in engineering design with nuclear and electronic shipboard systems, including the USS John F. Kennedy (CVA 67). He continued his career after the shipyard for many years with Virginia Power in project and construction management of several power plants throughout Virginia.

Charles enjoyed restoring old cars, was a patient and meticulous handyman, an avid saltwater fisherman, and a diligent provider for his family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19, from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
