Nora Katharine was born to Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Henderson on April 27, 1922 and went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2024. She grew up in Hamilton attending West Ward Elementary School and graduating from Hamilton High School in 1939. She attended Texas Tech and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1943. In 1954 she received a Master’s Degree in Education from Baylor University in Waco. She taught school for 36 years- starting in Sonora, Texas, then San Antonio, Hamilton and Chickesten Private School in Alexandria, VA.
She was very active with memberships in Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Bita Chapter, daughters of the American Revolution, Hamilton Retired Teachers Association, Hamilton’s 20th Century Study Club. She was a seventy plus year member of St. Mary’s Church, serving as yard manager, altar guild, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. She was also the first woman to solo from the Hamilton Airport in 1944.
Nora married John Keith James in Hamilton on December 31, 1943. They had a son, Cecil Dow James, both preceded her in death. John Keith passed on April 9, 1962 and Cecil Dow passed on June 11, 2011. She married Abner Franklin Teague on June 26, 1971, gaining three stepchildren Jan Moody, Julia Younggren and James Teague. In their retirement years they took great pleasure traveling the globe together for 30 years before Ab died on August 23, 2017.
Surviving family include: Daughter-in-law Tanys Munn and husband Joe, Grandchildren Phyllis Bradley and husband Bryan; Matthew C. James and wife Misty, two Great-grandsons Kelton and Kollin James; Step-daughter Julia Younggren; Grandsons Kevin and Ryan Younggren, three Great-grandchildren Chloe, Aiden and Jaxson Younggren; Grandchildren Michael Holloman and husband Juan Querol, Great-granddaughter Nora Holloman, Great-grandson Thomas Surratt; Sarah Tobola and husband Gary and Great-grandson Lance Tobola.
A Graveside service will be held at IOOF Cemetery in Hamilton on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hamilton Public Library or the Hamilton Historical Museum.
