Virginia was born in Omemee and grew up in Peterborough. After finishing high school at Adam Scott Collegiate; she attended Atkinson School of Nursing at Toronto Western Hospital. It was during this time that she met & married Jim. Shortly there after, Virginia started nursing at the newly opened McMaster Hospital in Hamilton. The Casey Family’s love of sailing started in the early 1970’s. Jim, Virginia and the 2 girls would spend most summer weekends in Burlington Bay and family vacations across both shores of lake Ontario; during which they built strong friendships in the boating world, especially within their home club of Burlington Sailing & Boating Club. She was an avid volunteer with all 3 of the girls’ West Mountain Hamilton schools; Dofasco Skating Club; BS&BS; Wentworth West Zymologists; Royal Botanical Gardens; & Neighbour to Neighbour. Virginia practiced as a nurse for 40 years, going back to school late in her career for her BScN. She also had a successful 2year term as president of OPANA, her professional nursing association. Over her lifetime, Virginia developed a love of gardening; gourmet cooking; making pottery; floral & gift basket arrangements; travel; reading; visiting art galleries; and a love of Theatre. She was well known for her dry, witty humour; her compassion; being a kind and intent listener; a mentor; and a loyal friend. Virginia loved fiercely and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
