Dear Hannah and Graham - Jeff and I offer our sincere condolences to the two of you for the passing of your Mom.  Although she had been ill for many years, it does not lessen the sudden loss.  She was a loving, caring person who always put others ahead of herself.  How precious that she was such an integral part of Nora's earliest years.  We hope the beautiful memories you have shared will help you grieve your loss.


Susan was such a big part of my youth, she was always so welcoming, and patient. She always helped others without judgement, her house on Stanley Street was always a safe and welcoming place. She always had open doors to those in need and never hesitated to help. Going to Wasaga Beach with the Radfords was one of the many great memories I will forever cherish. I am forever thankful for her acts of patience and kindness. 

Hannah and Graham,  you were so much a part of our life with your beautiful mom. I will never forget our cottage trip to Wasaga, sorry I could not stay today, but please reach out to me anytime, would love to see you both! Nora is adorable and both you and Graham did an amazing celebration today for your dear mother! Love you both, 905 807 1322.  I am not on Facebook! Love you, Kathy LeBlanc!

I am so sorry to hear about Susan's passing. Susan was one of the kindest people and a wonderful influence during high school. She will be deeply missed. 

Susan went out of her way to make Science fun for the students in the Jeanne Scott Parent and Child Resource Centre, where she volunteered as a tutor for many years. National Periodic Table Day and Pie (3.14) Day were among her favourites. Her optimism, honesty, and dedication to our students will be fondly remembered and missed.

Susan was one of my favourite students when she attended McMaster School of Social Work. She was kind to everyone and her positive outlook created a good ambience among the students.

Even when she was living with cancer, Susan generously sought signatures on a "Petition to Raise Social Assistance Rates". This was  a project undertaken by the Hamilton Social Work Action Committee--a social justice group that included Susan's dear friend Heather Gregersen.

Susan was a model for all of us with the courage she showed handling life with cancer.  She made our world a better place.  Sally Palmer.

My deepest condolences to Hannah, Graham, Shane and little Nora on the passing of their remarkable Mom, Mother in Law and Grandma.  Susan and I were colleagues at the HWDSB for many years.  She truly was a unique woman, who knew who she was and what she wanted to do.  Long before having multiple careers in your life was common,  Susan set the example that you can do anything you want to do when you decide to and “go all in”.  Sue loved her work at the HWDSB and more importantly genuinely loved and cared about the students and families that she worked with.  It is here that her “can do, will do” attitude shone through with every interaction she had with staff, students, families and the community agencies she worked collaboratively with.  “No” was not a word in her vocabulary.   She was a resourceful, dedicated, and passionate social worker who often put the needs of students and their families she worked with ahead of her own.  I will remember Susan as a wonderful mother and role model to her two terrific children.  She lived for Hannah and Graham in spite of the many challenges she faced.  I will remember her for her strength, dignity of others, her down to earth approachability, and her boundless love for her children, family,  friends, and  the students and families whose lives she left an indelible mark on.  

My deepest condolences to Susan's friends and family. I remember first meeting Susan more than 30 years ago. She'd just come back from a social justice event at City Hall and I was bowled over by her beauty, positivity, passion and commitment to making the world a better place for all of us. Over the years, Susan and I were not in touch that much - for no other reason than each of us got busy with family and work and other activities. But whenever we'd run into each other, she'd speak with so much love about her growing family - a proud mom and grand-mom always. My first impressions of Susan were lasting ones. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.



Susan will always be remembered by myself and  my family as an Allenby parent, a dog owner, someone who attended take back the night with us, and someone whose heart and desire for social  justice were unmeasurable.
Long before she became ill we would swim, hang out, play games, watch our kids sports, and go to movies. Over the last 20 years of her illness we were awed by her stamina and drive to survive. There are so many happy memories and wonderful memories that Susan will live on in our hearts. We raise a beer to you dear friend, lahiem to life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Graham and  Hannah and Shane and Nora.

Just a few short weeks ago Susie and I were enjoying a much anticipated ice cream feast.    What am I going to do with all of my extra time Sus now that you are gone.    You will forever be in my broken heart my adopted sister.   Love you and miss you so much. Xoxoxo

Deepest condolences to Hannah, Graham and Sue’s friends and family members. Sue embodied what it means to be a social worker.  She genuinely cared about others and I know she had an incredible impact on the Bennetto neighbourhood where she worked for many years. I will always remember Sue for her positive energy and humour. Sue provided so many wonderful moments, I cannot help but smile when I think of her.  



I very much admired Susan. It was a privilege to meet her through Caroline Languay and spend time with her at cottages in Port Elgin and Southampton. It was apparent that she did not have things easy, including with her health, yet she was always so positive with a "can do" spirit, chuckling and brushing off (with a hand gesture) when a challenge came up in conversation. "Pfft," she said, a few times, with that chuckle. "Big deal. Cancer. Oh well." It was a lesson about life. Most nights, we left the group and went down to the beach where she savoured quick swims in the cold, dark lake water. I'll never forget her joy in that simple pleasure. I knew she had a fascinating career, always had neat houses, cats and the dog, her kids, 20+ years with cancer, and had been a mentor and example to many women I know and love. They treasured her. When I saw Susan last at the Fester-Clark cookout, weak and on oxygen, she was still her pleasant self, asking about others, enjoying the fresh air and some BBQ as her granddaughter played steps away, and yes, still brushing off mention of her health challenges with that chuckle and whisk of her hand. Such a sad loss of a person with kindness, grace and the patience of Job.

Sending my deepest condolences to the Radford family. Susan was such a bright, intelligent and warm mother. She always had a smile and a positive attitude. I have so many great memories of Susan and her family, especially up at Wasaga Beach and visiting her in Hamilton. I will cherish every moment I had with her, especially the ones this past year. She will be truly missed! 😢❤️
