Marie passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 23rd at the age of 92. She is predeceased by Norman Maxwell, her husband of 54 years, and her sister-in-law, Marianne Hoyle, of Vancouver. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Diana Brydon (Bill), Debra Maxwell, Dale Maxwell (John Ruderman) and grandchildren Nicholas, Daniel and Michael Ruderman. She will also be missed by her sister Donna
Starr (Michael), her brother-in-law John Hoyle and her nieces and nephews Becky, Nancy, Russell, Kinnie and Christopher.
Marie was born and raised in Hamilton, a city she loved. She graduated from McMaster University, where she pursued her love of literature. After graduating, her reading was nurtured for over forty years by the wonderful lectures given by Rabbi Baskin. Her love of Hamilton was strengthened through her many years volunteering with the Big Sisters Association, the Hamilton Art Gallery and the University Women’s Club of Hamilton. She was a regular member of Ryerson Church in Hamilton and Elgin United Church near her family cottage. She spent many happy summers at the cottage where she enjoyed time with family and friends and enjoyed the beauty of Indian Lake by Chaffey’s Lock. At home and at the cottage, friends and family benefitted from her love of baking and knitting. Marie and Norm also enjoyed travelling throughout the world-Russia, Morocco, Hong Kong, Thailand, Egypt, Columbia to name only a few of their favorite trips. Of all the places they visited, Paris held a special place in their hearts.
Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held at Ryerson United Church, 842 Main Street East, Hamilton on Sunday, September 16th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ryerson United Church would be welcome.
