It is with profound sadness that the family of Joseph T. Kostyk announces his sudden passing on Monday, September 26th, 2011. Beloved husband to the late Shelagh (O’Reilly), cherished and unfailingly devoted father to Joseph (Kathryn), Kimberly (Thomas), and an adored Gigi to Tyler and Reilly Rose. Predeceased by his loving parents Rose (Telizyn) and Daniel. Simply “Joe” to all who knew him, he was a proud first generation Canadian and honoured his Ukrainian heritage. Joe graduated from McMaster, where he also taught business law, and Osgoode Hall. President of the Newman Club, member of the Knights of Columbus and Rotary. Joe was a sportsman who was asked to join the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team but opted for school. He was a long time supporter of the Tiger Cats and became one of the first lawyers to act as an agent for professional athletes in Canada. Joe was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, enabling The Hon. John Munro to many victories as MP and Minister. There are too many businesses that Joe championed successfully to mention. Joe was first and foremost a family man and a loyal and generous friend. He had a passion for life. He was a proud Hamiltonian and devoted his career to serving the people of this city as an Alderman and lawyer. In his later years, he enjoyed the friendship, care and support of both the Heart Function Clinic and Goldie’s at Shalom Village to whom we offer our heartfelt thanks. Joe will always be remembered for his signature smile, his gregarious nature, his generosity, unconditional love, encouragement, and wisdom. We take heart that he has rejoined the love of his life, his other half, Shelagh. He was indeed one of a kind – a blessing to all who knew him, who will live in our hearts forever. Family will receive friends at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Avenue East on Thursday from 4:00-8:30 pm. A Prayer Service (Panachyda) will take place at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service will take place at The Cathedral of Christ The King Roman Catholic Church this Friday at 10:30 am. Interment to follow at White Chapel Cemetery.
