I met John three years ago when I started working in the auto collision repair industry.  I was inspired and amazed by his passion for what he did in that industry, and we spent many a time chatting a great length about his thoughts and contributions.  Conversations were lively, thoughtful and intense. I learned a lot about a lot of things from John, as he imparted his knowledge and insights so openly.  John was very good to me.  He knew I was a newbie, and did what he could to educate and support me as I became more involved in auto collision repair. For all of his efforts, kindness and spirited nature, I am grateful, and very pleased that John became such a valuable industry ally. 

Today I took the time to watch the video with all the photos of John, and appreciated having a window into his personal life.  There's a glimmer of pride beaming from his face, leaving me no doubt that just as he was passionate about his work, he was even more so with  his family.  

On June 14th I am participating in The Longest Day Run,  an annual event in Vancouver in  support of juvenile diabetes.  This run is dedicated to John and his family.  

My heart goes out to John's family, and everyone who has been impacted by him at some point in their life.  May we all find peace in knowing that he leaves a little something with each of us.  

John was such a great guy and a great thinker. He was full of insight and information, and will be a great loss to the Collision Industry.

John and I spoke just a few days before, and as always after talking with him, his insights were always helpful. I will certainly miss these conversations and I am saddened with his passing.

I met John around 5 years ago when I was first opening up my business. He was not only our first paying customer, he helped us get on our feet by giving us some office work to do while we were getting established. He helped us numerous times with small business advice and was always a pleasure to talk to. We would not be running a successful business today were it not for John's help and for that I am forever thankful.

I met John over thirty years ago when he became the Executive Director of HARA,, from day one I was impressed with his knowledge, dedication and commitment to our association.  John and I worked together for many years on the Boards of HARA and CISCO,  his hard work and contributions are imbedded in the advancement and professionalism of the Collision Industry,  not only in Canada but in North America.

Sincerest thoughts, prayers and condolences to John’s family, friends, and those close to him. There are a lot of us who are truly going to miss him also. The passion, purpose, sincerity, vision and drive that John pursued and advocated for the industry, apprenticeship programs, and the business climate for all those involved, was second to none. I am saddened to hear of John's sudden passing. I met John in 1997 at an I-CAR event in Vancouver, and I had the opportunity to work with John throughout the years on many initiatives. I will remember him as one of the hardest working gentlemen in our industry;  his compassion, committment and energy surrounded everything that he was involved in. My condolences to John's family.


I had the privilege of knowing John since I first became Editor at Collision Management magazine in 2015. He was one of the first people to reach out to me in my new role. I immensely enjoyed every opportunity to chat with him at industry events and Joh was always willing to share is knowledge and expertise with others. His driven determination to make things better in our industry was truly admirable and yet he was always aware of the human impact.  Whenever we had an industry topic we felt would be of use to our readers and the industry, I'd often consult with John and he was always eager to lend a hand and provide insight and feedback.

His passing comes with a great deal of sadness to both myself and our team. John made a lasting impact on those that got to know him and he will be sorely missed.

John had all the hallmark qualities of people who are great at whatever they do:  he was always present, always aware, always learning, always passionate, and always reached out to others.  He was smart, he was dedicated, and he was fiercely outspoken against the negative forces at play in the industry that he so clearly loved.  The collision repair industry was richer for having his active involvement and attention, and it will be significantly poorer in his absence.  The hope is that other people will be inspired by John, and carry on his legacy.  My condolences to his family.  I enjoyed every conversation I ever had with him, and knew him as a thoughtful, reflective individual; I'm sure his passing will be very difficult for those that remain, but I hope that the significance of his widespread contributions to the industry that he loved so dearly will bring you some small comfort during these hard times. I've been in this industry now for only 5 years and John was nothing short of amazing, helpful and caring. He chose to see something in me before I saw something in myself and he always provided with the tools (even extra information) to help me move further in my career. He will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with his family in this horrible time. Thank you John, for everything.

I will miss John. He lived close by and we would often meet at the local coffee shop to talk about the automotive industry. He always had a unique perspective on things, and more plans than a dozen people could complete! He was generous with his time and his knowledge. He was also patient. He was a good man, and he is gone too suddenly, and far too soon.
