Dec 4, 1919 – April 23, 2012
Passed away peacefully at home, attended by Shirley, his wife and loving companion for 65 years. Born in Southeast London, England, to William and Kathleen Ball, John was the last survivor of seven siblings: Bill, Kitty, Dolly, John, Len, Joan, and Stan. He served in the RAF during the Second World War, stationed in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, emigrating to Canada in 1946. John will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley and their children Terry, Eric, and Lorraine; by grandchildren Christina, Graeme, Len, Geoff, Josh, and Caitlin; by extended family members Karen, Jon, Florence, and Kim; and by many other relatives and friends. John served as president of Local 504 of the United Electrical Workers for many years and fought for workers’ rights throughout his entire life, resigning from the Retirees’ Chapter of the C.A.W. (formerly, U.E.W.) at age 90, when physical limitations made it impossible to continue. He never wavered in his devotion to this cause. Visitation will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Saturday, April 28th, from 2:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an environmental organization of choice.
