Jim is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Donna Foster (nee Warren) and his children, Dr. Warren Foster (Margaret), Louanne Gettel (Michael) and Kim Foster (Ian). He was the proud grandfather to 9 grandchildren, Kristen, Katelyn, Mitchell, Jim, Jenn, Rose, Emily, Megan and Sarah and 8 great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his sister Florence (Bob Bowman) and Audrey (Norman Schenck).
Many will remember Jim as a railway man through and through, starting his career with the Canadian National Railway as an apprentice machinist in Stratford, Ontario. Rising through the ranks, Jim served first in Toronto and subsequently in the CN Head Office in Montreal, before joining the management team of Via Rail. After retirement, Jim used his vast experience to assist developing countries throughout the world build maintenance systems in support of their railway steam and diesel electric power. Living in Ingersoll, Ontario, Jim continued to enjoy golf, his rose gardens and hockey both as a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan and supporter of the local Ingersoll Blues. When they moved to Hamilton, Jim was on the board of Directors for Glancaster Homes (Phase 14) and was know throughout the neighbourhood for his beautiful rose garden. Wherever Jim lived, he enjoyed being involved in his church community. Family and friends will remember Jim for his good humor, storytelling, love of sports, and for being an outstanding community member.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Harmony Baptist Church, 1763 Upper James Street, Hamilton on September 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Eatery, 541 Barton Street in Hamilton or The Kiwanis Club in Ingersoll would be appreciated.
