Passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018 at the age of 78. Cherished husband and best friend of Patricia. Proud father of Michael (Sandy), David (Nancy) and Paul (Tracy). Dearly loved Grandpa of Theresa, Todd, Donald, Benjamin Jacob and Samuel. Loved brother of Gladys (Jim) Hooton and Marjorie Hopcraft and brother-in-law of Michael Calligan and Susanne (Steve) Cox.
Don Served with the RCHA for 28 years starting in the Apprentice program in Shilo Manitoba in 1956 as an artillery apprentice at age 16. He went on to serve his country in various parts of Canada and Europe. Apart from the guns, his great love was being an observer with the Tactical Helicopter Squadron.
He was also a special constable with the Hamilton-Wentworth Police for 18 years.
Don was involved with the Scouting movement in many capacities in Petawawa and Stoney Creek. He passed on his love of the outdoors, camping and canoeing to many young boys. He served on parish council in Petawawa Protestant Chapel and at Church of Our Saviour in Stoney Creek. He was also a longtime parishioner of Church of the Nativity in Hamilton.

Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday February 4, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service at Church of the Nativity, 1831 King Street East, on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11am. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Church of the Nativity, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
