Dorothy Mae Cooper, age 99, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Hospice of Hamilton. She was born on September 26, 1924 in Hamilton, the daughter of the late James Asher and Delia Woods. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clifford Cooper; and her brothers, Jack and James Asher. Dorothy worked at Arthur Murray's for over 2 decades while teaching dance on television and raising her daughter, Donna Mae. Her hobbies included gardening, with a particular fondness for yellow roses and tulips. She was an avid crafter who handcrafted quilts and stained glass lamps nearly every day. Dorothy was extremely fond of country line dancing and dogs. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and passion for dance and crafting. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Donna Mae Barnes; cherished grandchildren, Johnny (Sabrina) Barnes and Laura (Richard) Gabbard; great-grandchildren, Brian (Courtney) Barnes, Brad (Justyne) Barnes, Kristen Gabbard, Stephanie Gabbard, and Heather (Robert Boomershine) Gabbard; and great-great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Madison, and Kendra Barnes, John, Kirsten, and Quenton Nelson, Summar Jones, Skylar Shepherd, James and Julius Jones, Courtney and Dakota Hacker, and Destiny, Charleigh, and Cayden Boomershine. A Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton. Interment will follow in Millville Cemetery. Dorothy Mae Cooper will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend.
