In loving memory of Margaret Verna Stonehouse of Bedford, Nova Scotia who passed away February 28, 2013 at the VG Hospital of Halifax at the age of 88 years.Verna was born in Sunnybrae Nova Scotia. The daughter of Charles Murdock MacLeod and Mrytle (MacGregor) MacLeod.Verna lived from Springhill to Digby to Bedford, spending winters in Florida in her retirement years. She worked as a teletype operator, stenographer, secretary and community volunteer. She enjoyed walking, curling and golf; and was a bridge enthusiast throughout her life.Verna was known for being strong minded, ethical, committed and competent. Her personality was built around her sense of humour, laughter and friendships. She was always ahead of her times and young at heart. She was a proud grandmother and always put her family first.We had to say goodbye to Verna suddenly but it was a graceful, quiet, and pain free passing with her family at her side. She was lucid, caring and insightful to the end and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Leonard Russell Stonehouse, her son Grant, daughter in-law Pam and grandchildren D’Arcy and Aaron of Tantallon, and three wonderful sisters; Ethel (George) Weston of Port Perry, Dorothy Conn of Port Charlotte, FL., Patricia Potts of Digby as well as many nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her sister Thelma Smith and her son Gregory Russell Stonehouse. There will be a visitation held Tuesday March 5, 2013 from 2-4:00 at J.A Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive Halifax Nova Scotia B35 0E1 (455-0531). There will be a family graveside service and internment in Fairview Cemetery,Digby at 11am on Saturday August 24th, 2013. Heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate and competent health care and guidance, provided by Dr. Valerie Ross, Dr. Carmen Giacomantonio, Dr.Sudeep Shivakumar, and Dr. Sue Robinson (and all nursing staff in hematology, ER and 6B IMCU).
