Miller, Tasha Patricia, Age 61 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on September 8 after a short dance with cancer. She preferred not to call it a “struggle” or a “battle” for at every step of the way she embraced her cancer as an opportunity for spiritual growth and reflection. Her optimism and her ability to find the important lesson in any situation earned her the admiration of many. Tasha was born in India in 1954, but the family was forced to flee to the United Kingdom to escape the violent political tensions which had continued to reverberate since Indian independence in 1947. In the UK Tasha studied fine arts and theatre before finding her passion in the Alexander Technique. In 1983 she became a teacher of the Alexander Technique and embarked on a lifelong passion to teach the work in a way that was faithful to its principles whilst bringing in new innovations. Her work became known as AT iPAC. Along the way Tasha also earned a degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Social Health and Welfare from the Open University and wrote an acclaimed book about the Alexander Technique. In 2004 she arrived in Nova Scotia and set up her teaching practice, Alexander Technique Atlantic. Her enthusiasm and dedication to her students earned her a loyal following both in the UK and Canada. Tasha is survived by her husband, David Langstroth, her sister Winn (Smith), and her brothers Patrick, Brian and Michael. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthews United Church, 1479 Barrington St. on Friday September 18 at 2:00pm, officiated by the Reverend Robert Mills. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to ISANS, the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, to support other families arriving in our province after fleeing danger in their home country. www.isans.ca.
