Stuart James Hilder (Jim), Nov. 7, 1952 – Dec. 30, 2011. It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Jim Hilder on Dec. 30, 2011 from a sudden heart attack. Born to Les and Doris Hilder in Moncton, he was predeceased by his father in 1983 and by his mother just seven months ago. After thirty successful years as a chef, he changed occupations and joined Ocean Contractors, his current work family. In 2006 he met and began a relationship with Mary McMillan. He spent the last year bravely and successfully surviving pancreatic cancer treatments. Jim had a kind and generous spirit about him and will be sorely missed. Jim had travelled extensively and was an amateur photographer. He was also a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan and proudly wore his Jersey in public whenever he felt inclined to do so. Jim’s life and impact while on this earth cannot be adequately captured here, but encounters with Jim will continue to reside in the memories of the people who knew him. As Jim would say “BECAUSE, I SAID SO”. Jim is survived by his loving partner, Mary, his beloved son, Jonathan and his wife, Jennifer and his cherished granddaughter, Max. He was excited to be expecting a second granddaughter in early March. Jim is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Helmut) Samland (nephew Markus and grandniece, Madison) of Halifax, brother, Stephen (Kathie) and nieces, Leslie and Kristin (Darcy) and grandnieces Lily, Abby and Melyssa of Prince George, BC and brother, Tom (Bonnie), of Sackville, NS, and Mary’s children, Jason (Pam, Dylan and Danielle) and Ryan. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Molinari, Dr. Lo, Dr. Bahl, Chaplin David McGinlay, the staff at the Victoria General and the doctors and nurses at the QEII who fought so hard to save his life. To the Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Support Group, Ocean Contractors Ltd, the Brunch Club, Bell Aliant, Jim’s condo community, Bedford United Church, and the uplifting support of friends, God Bless you. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902) 455-0531. The memorial service will be held Friday, January 20th, at Bedford United Church, 1200 Bedford Highway, Bedford, NS, at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. David Hart. Reception will follow in the Church Hall. Internment will take place at a later date at a private family gathering.
