It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stewart Gregory Doucette, at the age of 59. He passed quietly on Tuesday August 29th, surrounded like he was in all his life, by love and family. He is survived by his parents Charles and Diane Doucette, his sisters Katrina (Chris), Justine (Stephen), his nephews Ian (Nicole), Adam (Hannah), and Owen, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends, and many other friends. He was loved and cherished by so many, and lived a life worth living, full of things that he loved, people who cared for and treasured him, relationships that he adored and activities that brought him joy. We should all be so lucky to lived the life Stewart did. With his silly grin, twinkling eyes and little elf ears, he made friends where ever he went. But don't let that fool you, he had a temper and could cuss like a sailor! The first on the dance floor at any event, he broke the ice without even knowing that he did. He was just dancing for the joy of it. He loved movies (heaven forbid if you didn't return a DVD on time), music, singing, puzzle books, coloring books, and of course the Montreal Canadiens! From a young age he flourished in the Special Olympics, taking home many medals in track and field, speed skating, bowling and golf. He was fondly referred to as Herbie (Don't know how that started). He spent 34 years at the Prescott Street workshop, he loved going to "work"...again we should all be so lucky. There he was loved and cared for by a staff that was more like family, had friends (and a few girlfriends) that he loved spending the time with, and work (regardless of what it was) that he enjoyed. He will be forever deeply missed. The shuffle of his feet as he brought something over to show you, will be heard on the quietest of days. The hysterical giggle that he would have when something struck him funny, while you were left wondering what it was, but laughing because he was laughing, that will echo in our hearts forever. A special thank you from the family to all of the wonderful caregivers from the Nova Scotia Disability Supportive Care Program, as well as Palliative Care. Stew had a favorite joke that would get him laughing every time he told it..This one is for you Herbie... "What are you eating under there?"..."Under Where?".."Pink!!!"... Got him every time.
A service will be held at Saint Agnes Catholic Church (6903 Mumford Road) at 10:00 am, Friday September 8th, officiated by Father Patrick Salah. A celebration of life at the church hall will follow.
