Carrigan, Sherri Christine (Simmons) – 47 of Timberlea passed away on June 4. Born in Glace Bay on November 8, 1976 to amazing and supportive parents James and Tena Simmons, and big brother Jason who she idolized.
Sherri graduated from Glace Bay High School and then went on to St. Francis Xavier University to complete her B.Sc. She attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent to obtain her B.Ed. She also spent two summers as a camp counselor in Calgary. Soon after graduation she moved to Japan to teach English with the love of her life, Mike Carrigan. Being in Japan allowed her to travel to different parts of the world including Australia and Thailand where she spent her 25th birthday. In 2002 she moved to Toronto to start her teaching career. At the age of 28 Sherri and Mike were married in Dominion, Cape Breton and in 2006 they moved to Halifax where they bought their first house.
Sherri’s pride and joy and her whole world were her two beautiful children, Zoe and Jay. In 2014 she moved to Timberlea where her amazing neighbors soon became family. Her 40th birthday was spent in Punta Cana and soon after she was diagnosed with ALS. Sherri didn’t want ALS to define her. She wanted to be remembered as a loving daughter, beautiful wife, caring mother, thoughtful friend and kind teacher. She loved nothing more than watching her kids play sports, live music-attending many concerts, spending time with family in Cecil’s garage and partying with friends and neighbors.
An informal gathering to celebrate Sherri’s life will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Saturday, June 8 from 6-8pm with remarks at 7pm. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Society of NB and NS
