Rose-Aline O'Brien

Rose-Aline O’Brien, 83, of Halifax, passed away on March 21st at the Palliative Care unit of the Victoria General Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1933 in Cape St. Mary NS, she was the daughter of Levinia (nee Doucet) Frontain and Severin Frontain.

Rose worked for many years as an executive secretary with the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union. She was widely known and appreciated by the executive and teachers for her work in organizing many conferences and events. In her younger years she was an avid seamstress and crafter. She devoted many hours to the St Theresa’s Parish Catholic Womens’ League where she held the post of treasurer for a number of years and participated in numerous church fairs. She was also a member of the St. Agnes Children of Mary. Rose and her late husband Stan spent many happy hours enjoying the serenity and beautiful sunsets at their cottage overlooking Molega Lake in Queens County NS. Rose had a ready smile, a warm heart, was generous and enjoyed a good laugh.

Rose is survived by her three children: Kathy O’Brien of Bedford NS, Daniel O’Brien (Cecile Temones) of Dammam Saudi Arabia, and Donna Tulle (Derek) of Riverview NB; four grandchildren: Karly, Christine, Brian, Samantha; five brothers: Gerald (Carolyn nee Green) Hamilton ON, Gus (Margaret nee O’Toole) California, Jess Francois (Joan nee Langille) Riverview NB, Gilbert (Elsie nee Aucoin) Calgary AB, Lewis (Beatie nee Caldwell) Calgary AB: sisters-in-law Anne Frontain Baltimore Maryland, Lorraine Guss California; numerous nieces and nephews; her very best friend Phyllis Wenham, Halifax NS and her beloved feline friend, Marty.

She was predeceased by her husband Stan in 1995; her two brothers Bernie, Hermosa Beach California, and Norman, Baltimore Maryland, and her infant grandson Jeremy Tulle, Riverview NB.

A special thank-you to Dr. Patricia Beresford for her personal attention as her family physician, the wonderful caring staff of the Victoria General Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit where she spent the past 2 ½ months and to Father James Wegner of St Theresa’s Parish for his spiritual support during her journey.

The family will receive condolences at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home in Halifax where visitation will be held on Sunday March 26 from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on North Street, Halifax on Monday March 27th at 11am. A reception will follow in the Church hall.
