Rose Marie Adams

Rose Adams, 82, went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2024. She is the guest of honour at a very big party in heaven, joining the last of her thirteen siblings. They are undoubtedly celebrating together, reunited with their parents, Sidney and Ethel Loppie.

Rose Adams was a strong, determined woman who raised seven children on her own, setting an example of resilience and perseverance. Leaving school at 16 and marrying at 18, she later earned her GED, instilling in her children the importance of education. Rose worked in the nonprofit sector, serving as a coordinator at Coalition Supportive Services during the 1970s and 80s. She also worked in retail, always dedicated to serving the public. Up until her retirement, she was an instructor at Options Work Activity in Halifax, where she made a lasting impact.

In the 1970s, Rose developed a program through the federal government called "Natural Braids N Things," designed to teach Black children and their parents or caregivers how to care for natural Black hair. This was just one of the many ways she sought to uplift and empower her community.

Rose was the proud mother of seven children: Faith, Dennis (Megan), Devon (Caroline), Freda, Terry, Darcelle (Lenny), Darnelda, Son-in-law Derrick, and Dawn,(Glen). She was predeceased by her parents, Sidney and Ethel Loppie, and her thirteen siblings: May, Claire, Winifred, Grace, James, Charlie, Alvena, Mary, George, Leroy, Esther, Helen, and Shirley. She was predeceased by her former husband, Dennis Adams, and special friend John Barron. Rose will be deeply missed by her best friend Heather and

Sister-in-laws Gwen and Lydia. She was also a longtime member of New Horizons Baptist Church, formerly Cornwallis Street Baptist Church.

Rose lived a rich and meaningful life, often viewing the world through a humorous lens that not everyone could always appreciate, but her insights were always keen. In the 1960s, she, along with other concerned parents, helped establish the Brunswick Street Cornwallis Preschool and Playgroup to challenge the educational status quo and provide a leg up for many children, including her own.

After retiring from Options Work Activity, Rose enjoyed her retirement, spending time bargain hunting, playing family bingo, and most importantly, being surrounded by her family. She cherished family gatherings and made sure to capture those moments in cherished photographs.

Rose was blessed with many grandchildren: Caleb, Dayne, Christianna, Kellen, Robert, Alex, Destiny, Kenya, Iesha, Jace, Dustin, and Shiedda, and great-grandchildren Everleigh, Samuel, and Bodhi. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, her special goddaughter Winifred Junior, Starr and her twin godsons, Justin and Jerrice, Mary, Charlene and Rosie who held a special place in her heart.

Though she did not raise them, three young people—Donovan, Sheldon, and Laura—spent significant time in her home, with some living there briefly. They always held a special place in her heart.

Rose had a love for mysteries, particularly enjoying Miss Marple mysteries, anything by Agatha Christie, and "Murder, She Wrote. “Rose also had a unique taste in music and love the artists Rick Astley, Billy Ocean, the Eagles, and Charlie Rich to name a few. Later in her life, she enjoyed watching YouTube videos of her mother, church, Bishop Bullwinkle (a.k.a. her Man), Gunsmoke, Wyatt Earp and ballroom dancing.

Visitations will be held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on August 15 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm.

Going home service will be held on August 16, 2024 at Cruikshank's Funeral Home at 10am with interment to follow at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd, Middle Sackville. Rev Grace I Skeir officiating.

Interment will be immediately after service at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd, Middle Sackville, NS, all are welcome to join the family for the burial and are welcomed back at the funeral home for a reception following the burial.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, strength, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
