Ronald Gary Legere, Fall River, NS. Born in Moncton, NB. It is with broken hearts we had to say goodbye to Ron on March 5, 2020. Ron struggled for over 3 1/2 years to stay with us after his cardiac arrest August 3, 2016.
Ron worked for Industrial Cold Milling, a division of the Miller Group, right up to the night of his illness at the age of 71. He always said if you like what you “are doing”, the people you “work for” and the people you “work with”, why retire. Ron felt very honoured to receive the Canadian Road Builders of the year award from the Canadian Construction Association in March 2011. This award recognized his contribution to the road building industry across Canada. He also received an award as Honourary Member of the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association. He was president of the N.S, Road Builder in 2000 and sat on the board of directors for the CCA. Ron liked being involved and for years organized the NSRB Curling and the NSRB golf tournaments, which is now called “the Ron Legere Invitational.” He loved his golf games with his buddies at the Ashburn Golf Club and when possible his Saturday poker games at the casino.
Ron was given a couple of nick names, one was “Grumpy (which many can attest to) and was presented a golf club cover of Grumpy. However he was a real softy at heart.
He also sat on the Board of Directors at the Ashburn Golf Club, where for many years he was match and handicap chairman and club captain of the Ashburn team. He also coached some little league softball, hence the other nickname “Coach”.
Ron leaves behind his wife Margie, son Danny (at home), Tony (Mami) of Salmo, BC., and grandson Kenji, BC, whom he loved to share pictures of. Ron was predeceased by his parents Eva and Gerald Legere, his sister Sharon, and stepmother Margaret Legere and his side kick on many road trips his dog Sheba.
Many thanks to the ever present family and friends who helped make things easier these past few years. Thanks to all the paramedics, doctors, and nurses at the QEII, and also Dr. R. Horton and his compassionate team of nurses at the Palliative care unit of the V.G. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Ashton, whom I could always count on, and all of Ron’s caregivers, with special thanks to his caregiver Michelle, who was always at his side. One very special person who was always here to help, thank-you Calvin,
