Roger LeBlanc, age 69 of Halifax passed away peacefully at home on January, 19, 2015. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Theresa Angela (LeBlanc) Brown. Roger was a graduate of St Pat’s High School, NSIT electronics and obtained his BSc in Physics from St. Mary’s University in 1971. He was a SMU alumni and supported SMU football. He had four children from his first marriage to Donna and is preceded by his daughter Janelle whom he loved and missed dearly. He was an involved father and took great pride in his sons, Mike, Chris and Dave, watching them grow, mature and become accomplished in their chosen careers. He was a family oriented man and loving husband to his wife of twenty years, Judy. He was a pet lover, especially his dog, Abbey. He was a devoted grandfather to Arabella and Alessandra. Roger worked for EMI Cosser, NB Tel, Hewlett Packard, Tektronix, Dynavar and his own company, Online Interactive. He was an accomplished guitarist, playing in local bands in the 60’s and 70’s. He toured briefly with April Wine but chose his family over pursuing his music career. He loved the music of The Beatles, Buddy Holly, The Shadows, and The Ventures. He was an accomplished sailor, avid racer and active member of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in the 90’s. He participated in squadron races aboard the other love of his life, his yacht, Enchante, and sailed the St. Lawrence to Halifax and Marblehead course. He was a volunteer for the Marblehead race and a bridge member of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, teaching marine electronics and navigation. Roger possessed many handyman skills in electrical, plumbing and carpentry that he employed for himself and his friends and family. He enjoyed wine making and a nice bottle of red wine. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining his friends and family. He was an avid reader of the latest computer technologies, electronics and advancements in science.
Survived by his wife Judy Ashley-LeBlanc; sons, Michael (Debbie) of Corner Brook, NL, Christopher of Wellington, New Zealand, David of Halifax; grandchildren, Arabella and Alessandra; brother, Robert (Laurie) LeBlanc of White Rock, NS; sisters, Mary Ann (Ken) Martin of Halifax, Dorine Winters of London, ON; nieces Rhonda, Shelley and Lisa; nephew Brian. Predeceased by his daughter, Janelle and sister, Yvette Sauer. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm-2:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2015, all from Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street Halifax. Interment will be in St George’s Church Cemetery, Dutch Settlement, NS at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation.
