Roger Dubois - June 4, 1937 – September 28, 2024
Passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his loving wife of sixty-six years, Mary (nee Williams), son Paul (Janice) Dubois, Dartmouth, daughters Carole Dubois (Carlton Moore), Porters Lake, and Michelle (Brian) Cowx, Kingston, Ontario, son-in-law Michael McKay, Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren Laura and Gregory (Izzi) Pomeroy, Emily and Rebecca Dubois, Ashley and Matthew McKay; and great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Blair Kane; sister-in-law Catherine Peltier and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Lina (Racicot) Dubois, daughter Anne Marie McKay, and sister Therese Racicot.
Roger was a modern-day Renaissance man. Born in Montreal, he became totally bilingual in French and English. He was a self-taught classical guitarist, woodworker and furniture maker, photographer, fabulous chef, leather crafter, and artist. Spending ten years in the Navy in navigation based in Halifax, Roger then opened an electronics repair shop. Moving to Corner Brook, NL, in the early 1970’s, he became a camera operator with CBC, while developing his business as a portrait and wedding photographer with Mary. In 1988, they moved to Oshawa, Ontario, where he became a camera operator with CTV, moving back to Halifax/Dartmouth in the mid 1990’s.
Roger was a quiet and decent gentleman who loved his family, especially “my Mary”. He had a special bond with animals and nature, appreciated good music, had a great knowledge of history, and loved to tell a good joke!
A special thank you to the staff of 5 West Palliative Care Unit of the Dartmouth General Hospital for the loving care given to Roger and our family over the past few weeks.
A small family funeral will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of one’s choice.
Rest in peace Roger, Dad, Granddad. We will always love and miss you.
