She grew up in Hackett’s Cove, before moving to Halifax and graduating from the Infirmary School of Cytotechnology. After raising her three children, she returned to work and worked with Statistics Canada for 28 years.
Phyllis had many hobbies and activities, she enjoyed going to Bingo with friends, and spent many summer days in and on the water in St. Margaret’s Bay. She was a 25-years-long member of the CWL (St Joseph’s and St Theresa’s councils) and was a devoted CWL member and volunteer with St Mother Teresa’s Church (now St Francis and St Clare Parish, Halifax). Rug hooking and quilting were favourite hobbies. She also enjoyed her trips to England, France, and Bermuda.
She will be remembered for being quick to always lend a hand to family and friends, cooking for gatherings at the holidays, her laughter, and her ability to turn neighbours into life-long friends.

Also survived by brother Larry, Hackett’s Cove and sister Cathy (Murray) MacGray, Halifax. Predeceased by mother Kathleen (Purchase) Covey and brothers Murray, Leon, and Allan.
