The family of Phil Burke is saddened to announce his passing on April 19, 2024 in Halifax, NS. Born in Halifax on August 7, 1932, son of the late Ambrose and Elizabeth Burke. He worked for NS Dept of Environment until his retirement. He also served 25 years in the Armed Forces. He fought in Korea in the battle at Kapyong River at Hill #77 in April 1951, where his unit was awarded the “Presidential Citation” from then President Harry S. Truman. He was a member of the Legion for over 65 years. He loved sports, especially baseball. He loved to dance and sing and was often the life of the party. He loved golfing, fishing, gardening, and bowling. He once scored 450, a perfect score in 5 pin bowling. Phil is survived by his son David (Darlene) and daughter Debbie Oickle (Wade), 2 grandsons Shawn (Dara) and Jason (Laura), 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. . He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine Burke (Romans) and twin sons, Stephen and Bernie; 4 sisters, Mary Kervin, Margaret Clark, Catherine Giles, Myrtle Burke; 1 brother, Jerome Burke. Cremation has taken place and a reception will be held on Monday, May 6th, from 11am to 1pm at JA Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Dr. in Halifax. Burial will take place afterwards. If desired donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
