Affectionally known as “Popeye” he passed away peacefully at home at the early age of 60, on Tuesday December 5, 2023. Popeye was the proud dad of Taylor Kristy (Sara Jayne) and Mackayla Jade who were the two people he loved more than life. He was also survived by his ex-wife and best friend Kim, who always held a special piece of his heart. He was especially close to the matriarch of the Jollimore family, his twin sister Patsy, with whom he had an unbreakable bond. He was the brother of many other siblings, Garfield (Linda), Pammy (Timmy), Cheryl, Joey, Gail (Calvin), & Randy. Popeye was predeceased by his mother, Marion, who was waiting for him with open arms. He was also predeceased by his father, Harvey, and brothers, Gerald, Raymond, & Kevin.
As we reflect on his sudden passing, finding the appropriate words to describe him has been hard. He was a tough guy with a heart of gold. He was a jokester, who was always the one to find the most humour in his jokes. He never met a person he didn’t carry on with. If you knew Popeye, you know this is how he showed affection. He was a champion of the underdog and always fought against any injustice. He was an animal lover, his very best bud was Zack the yellow lab, who is waiting for him ready to split a donair. He also held a particular fondness for his canine grandaughters Sofie and Candy, who loved him back just as much. He spoiled them rotten with several new squeaky toys on every visit and went bite for bite on any meals he had. If he wasn’t having a little nap, you could find him at Patsy’s house raiding her fridge and teasing her. They loved each other dearly and their twin bond was undeniably strong. We would be remiss if we didn't mention his best friend and brother Joey, with whom he also shared an exceptionally close life long bond. He was a collector of all things, needed or not. He spent his working life avoiding authority, and anyone who would tell him what to do. He was authentic and unapologetically himself. He loved fiercely, he fought fiercely and drove all those that loved him crazy, but he had a kind soul and a big heart touching many lives, in many ways with his genuine kindness.
In lieu of flowers, make someone laugh today - do something to make someones day a little brighter.
He died how he lived, on his own terms.
A celebration of life will take place Thursday, December 14th at 2pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home in Halifax.
