It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of our mother’s passing. She died peacefully in her sleep July 30th at the age of ninety-three. Born in Yarmouth she was the daughter of the late Lillian & Karl Boyd. After high school and finishing business school she worked at R H Davis & Co in Yarmouth. She met and married David Baker and moved to Hantsport, then on to Halifax for the remainder of her life. Pat worked at Sears/Roebuck and was the General Manager’s Secretary working for five GM’s during her employment.
She had been a member of the Waegwoltic Club with her young family and a lifetime member at the Armdale Yacht Club. She was part of the congregation of Bethany United Church since moving to Halifax in 1955, volunteering in many of the church activities. She loved the game of bridge and boasted playing in the same club for over 50 years making lifelong friends.
Our mother was an avid gardener and spent her summers working in her yard.
In her later years she spent winters in Austin, Texas, escorted by her granddaughter Megan and trips to Toronto to visit to her grandson, Matthew.
Pat will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her graceful bearing, and ready sense of humor.
She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years, David Baker, her eldest son Karl Baker, sister Lorraine, and brothers Garth and Ronald.
She will be greatly missed by her son Gregory Baker (Nancy), daughters Elaine Schnare (Stuart), Margaret LaValley (William) & Anne Baker; grandchildren: Jesleine, David, Philip, & James Baker; Alison Baker; Andrew & Peter Schnare; Megan Irons & Matthew Irons (Fleming Island, Florida); step grandchildren, Marc Gibbon & Logan LaValley; great grandchildren, Zeke, Theo, Rae and Mia and her many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff on the sixth floor at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax for dedication to their work, compassion, and their excellent care of our mother. We will forever be grateful.
