Those who knew Nancy knew she wasn’t one to mince words. Instead of a traditional obituary, we wanted to offer some pieces of wisdom for her friends and family, in her signature style.
To Harry, who loved and supported Nancy for more than 65 years of marriage, and especially in the past few years, she would say “turn off that damn Blue Jays game, they’re just going to lose!” Her children, Colin and Gillian, know that she loved them with her whole heart and supported their life decisions… but she also reserved the right to criticize those decisions. She would tell Doug, her son-in-law who she accepted as her own “sit your ass down and learn how to relax a minute.” Nancy loved her grandchildren, “Lippy” (Allie), “The Sweet One” (Carly) and “The Boy” (Ben) more than anything. With Nancy’s passing, she would want Allie to take on the title of “Queen Bitch” of the family. She’d encourage Carly to approach life with a little less sensitivity and a little more snark. For Ben, she’d say “here’s $50, don’t tell your mom.”
Without Nancy, her sisters Shirley, Lynn and Becky will have much quieter sister birthday dinners, weekends away and summer cocktail hours on the deck. But she’d say that just means someone needs to learn to drink more to make up for her absence. We apologize to her brother, Greg, that he had to find out from this obit that he wasn’t invited to those outings. To their children: Chris, Stephen, Dana, Jeff, Nick, Luella, Zach and Ashley… Nancy always had lots to say about your life choices, but she was proud of the people you’ve become.
To Milene Wingrove, one of her oldest friends, Nancy would say not to worry, that she and Al are having a blast watching you live your best life. And to the Curves and coffee girls that she always loved seeing, while meeting up may be much quieter without her stories, she’d want you to know that she and Sharon will be having a cocktail up there and toasting you all.
Nancy’s loss will be deeply felt by all those who were lucky enough to know her. Anyone who wants to celebrate Nancy’s life can join us on Wednesday Oct. 9, 2pm at JA Snow Funeral Home.
