Michael Erin Garagan

Michael “Mickey” Erin Garagan of Halifax passed suddenly while at home on December 17, 2024. Born January 6, 1947, he was the only child of Michael “Mike” and Mary Garagan. At a young age, Mickey spent time in the Army and the Halifax Fire Department, however, the majority of his career was spent at Air Canada which fostered his love of travel. Mickey spent many weeks each year travelling to Florida and other sunny destinations to enjoy good friends and escape from the cold winters. Mickey found his biggest passion after he left Air Canada in becoming a small business owner. He co-owned the Copper Penny for many years and later Nenagh Bar and Grill. Mickey left an undeniable mark in the hospitality industry and will be remembered by all who knew him.

Mickey was a proud member of the Charitable Irish Society and was an even prouder “Northender”, living most of his life in the Hydrostone. He enjoyed getting his 10,000 steps in every day and it was often said that he couldn’t walk down a street anywhere in the world without encountering someone he knew. Mickey was well liked by all who met him and will be dearly missed by those who had the fortune of knowing him.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Victoria and will be missed deeply by his children Sean (Catherine) Garagan and Shelley (Sheldon) MacDonald, his grandchildren Jenna and Callum Garagan, Quinn and Reese MacDonald all of Halifax and his companion Debbie Williams of Cole Harbour.

A Celebration of Life will take place on January 10, 2025 from 11am--2pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nova Scotia The Heart and Stroke Foundation, CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) Foundation, or to the Halifax Humane Society.
