Marjorie Mary Druhan

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marjorie Mary Druhan, age 99, of Halifax, on Thursday, December 29, 2022, with family by her side. Born in Mount Uniacke, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Edith Lynch. Marjorie is survived by her children: Kathleen Mann, Eileen (Joseph) Roache, John (Ollie) Druhan, Phyllis Druhan-Slaunwhite, Christine (Keith) Carruthers and Cindy Veith, for whom she was a second mother, her eight grandchildren: Annette (John) Ward, Shelly MacLean, Peter (Darlene) Mann, Lee Ann (Jim) Roache, Patricia (Mark) Steward, Colin (Fraser) Druhan, Morgan (John) Challes, Christopher (Beth) Carruthers. She will be dearly missed by her great-grandchildren: Shane, Sarah, Nicole, Ryan, Ashley, Colby, Justin, Brayden, Maddie, Rosy, Andrew Jack (AJ), Kailon, and Cameron. Marjorie came from a family of 15 with 7 brothers and 7 sisters. She is survived by brothers, Reggie, Ralph, Owen (Dorothy), Ross, Clyde, and sister, Nettie. Predeased by Wallace, Cyril, Evelyn, May, Ethel, Minnie, Jenny, and Mildred.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Dan Alec, the love of her life and left this message with us to ensure we would understand she was okay,

“Now darling, when the light goes out for me

I know what I should do

I’ll close my eyes one final time

And then I will be with you.”

Marjorie was also predeased by her two sons in law, Gary Mann and Roger Slaunwhite.

Mom was always happier at home and had friends that she would chat with for hours. Special thanks to Ruth and Shelly Noonan for always being there and Bruce Hendsbee and family for keeping an eye on her.

For those who knew her well, she had her quick wit until the end and passed on her dry sense of humour to most of us. She had a way. We all have our own special memories of favourite recipes and foods, trips, both local and away (BC to visit her sister, St Anne de Beaupre in Quebec many times, Jamaica), family events too numerous to start listing. She loved to read and loved crossword puzzles, loved to watch the birds, loved flowers, and loved us by instilling the importance of learning and living.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Closing the Gap for their compassionate and attentive care over the past few years. We also would like to make special mention of the EHS teams that came in her last few days, they not only provided comfort to Mom but to all of us knowing they were there.

We miss you already.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. in Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Marjorie’s life will be celebrated with a private service for family; and burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
