Marion Sampson

Sampson, Marion Eileen (Burke), age 83, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Northwood Centre. Marion was born at home on Poplar Street, Halifax. Daughter of the late John Burke and Laura Casey. She leaves to mourn sisters, Helen (Frank Mason) Meister, and Mary (Jim) Sutton; brothers, William (Julia) Burke, and George (Heather) Burke. She will be missed also by her many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Hilaire Sampson; son, Brian; sisters, Monica (George) Neklia, Kathleen (Don McInnes), and Joan (Paul) Deveau; niece, Linda Neklia; and nephews, Arthur Johnson, and William Burke Jr. During her working career she was a cosmetician for Buckleys Drug Store. Marion always expressed fondness for her endearing in-laws and relatives the “Sampsons” in L’Ardosse Cape Breton. Being of a generous nature and strong in her faith, she supported several charities and was a patron of St. Patrick’s Church and previously St. John the Baptist Church of Armdale.

Marion was an avid reader and statistician and greatly admired for her amazing power of recall. She was one of the last residents at Victoria Hall until it ceased to operate. The family wishes to thank the diligent staff at Northwood Manor and Centre for their kindness and caring during her stay. A heart felt thanks goes to her exceptional niece and God-child Joanne Neklia Dolan who graciously gave Marion her devoted love, time, and energy during Marion’s lengthy illness. She was the wind beneath her wings. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531). Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with memorial service held on Friday, April 11, at 10 am in the J. A. Snow Memorial Chapel. Following the service, the burial will be held at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. Family flowers only please.
