Marion Agnes Allen of Halifax, Nova Scotia was born on October 7,1927 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 5, 2022. Marion is remembered with great love by her three sons and their wives: Peter Charles Allen (Patricia Creighton), Eric Richard Allen (Annette Amping) and Stephen/Hoshea Allen (Sharon/Tal Bracha Allen). She is pre-deceased by her husband Vincent Peter Allen (2008), her
parents Emma Laba and Bolas Joseph and brothers Peter, Leo, and Bolas Jr. She is survived by her brother Frederick Joseph (pre-deceased by Anne Cormier), one greatgrandchild, three grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Mary Rogers. Her last few years were spent at Shannex’s Maplestone Enhanced Care Home, where she received excellent care.
In her late teens, she volunteered for the Red Cross, working in Camp Hill Hospital with the WWII veterans. In her early 20’s, Marion got a degree in chartered accounting from the Halifax Business College. In her late 20‘s, she and Mary Rogers travelled on Via Rail out west and worked at Chateau Lake Louise during the summer, having a marvellous time. On their way back to Halifax, they both decided to settle in Montreal where she worked as an accountant. This wonderful adventure lasted for 2 years, after which Marion returned to Halifax and began dating Vince, the love of her life. They married July 4, 1959. Once school was finished for her children in the 1980’s, she re-entered the workforce, again as an accountant. Marion was also a founding member of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra in 1977 where she was very active as a volunteer and soon became President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the NSYO. She and Vince loved travelling on their own and with their sons. They travelled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean, the United States, and every province in Canada by car. She enjoyed dancing and liked playing poker, scrabble, yahtzee, klabiash, cribbage and games of chance. She loved flower gardening, painting, and watching old Turner Classic movies. Marion was an amazing cook and took great joy in this, often preparing elaborate traditional Lebanese meals for large family gatherings. Kibbeh was her specialty and her sons were always nagging her to make it more often. Christmases, Easters, birthdays and special occasions were always celebrated with a marvellous spread of Marion’s home-made Lebanese food. Marion was a practical woman, organized, and kept a beautiful welcoming home. She had a wonderful sense of humour, and was always able to bring laughter into any situation - joy was one of her middle names. She had an incredible memory, was an excellent mathematician and also an amazing story-teller, keeping many old memories alive by passing them on orally to her family members when someone would ask a question. She was generous, compassionate and a very loving person, welcoming everyone with open arms. She will be sorely missed.
The Funeral takes place on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00am, Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maplestone Enhanced Care
