Ken Hue Lee

Ken Hue “Kenneth” Lee passed away in the early morning of July 21, 2024, at the age of 91.

Ken was born in Canton, China on September 27, 1932. Ken’s life path took him from his birthplace to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he built a business as a restauranteur and then later spent the latter of his retirement in Mississauga, Ontario.

Ken committed his life to his family, conducting his business, practicing being kind, generous, and was a gentle person to all who came to know him. His restaurant, The Oriental Restaurant, not only provided delicious food to its patrons, but was regularly featured in the Air Canada Enroute magazine as best dining in Canada. It was a part of the movie, Trudeau with Colm Feore. The restaurant also sustained the local university student population as Ken was generous in portions, understanding their struggles.

Ken enjoyed reading, with his favorite subjects being politics and history. During retirement he enjoyed travelling and learning about new things while exploring new places.

There was an internal comic in Ken. He was always on the edge of mischief, showing comical expressions, and playing the innocent to keep the situation running in stiches of laughter. Ken loved dogs. He enjoyed playing with dogs, charging up their energy and reveling in their exuberance.

Ken is preceded in death by his father, William and his mother, Ho Get Fong. He leaves his wife of 70 years, Betty, his 4 children, Brenda (Sadri Saidali) and Donna (Mark Siskawich) and Kelly and Regina.

Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Hamrahi, the professional health care staff - Saadia, Marsha, Magda, Vivan, Brianna, Chantel, De, Marlisa, Rosa, Tab and to all the volunteers at the Dorothy Ley Hospice who through their care and support made Ken’s time comfortable.

A gravesite ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on July 31, 2024, at the Halifax Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
