Ken Duggan

Duggan, Kenneth Alexander, 71. It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Ken on July 9, 2013 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Palliative Care, VG site, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Fairview, the youngest of twelve children of Arnold and Hazel (Collins) Duggan. Ken lived most of his life in Halifax. He was educated at Halifax Schools, graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, St. Mary’s University and Dalhousie University. He was employed by the Halifax School Board for 30 years - 5 years as a teacher at St. Patrick’s Jr High School and 25 as a Guidance Counselor at Halifax West High School. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Faye (Rose); sons Shawn and Michael (Tessie) and three adored grandchildren, Benjamin, Connor, and Jillian. He is also survived by sisters Noreen Larkin, Purcell’s Cove, Pauline Fyfe, St Catharine’s, ON, Beverly Duggan, St Catharine’s, ON; brothers Patrick (Thalia) Nassau, Bahamas, Donald, Kentville, Norman (Eleanor) Kentville, Allen, (Anita) Bedford. He was predeceased by brothers, Gerald and Mervyn; sisters Marian Malone and Helen Fasevich; brothers-in-law Leonard Malone, Michael Fasevich, William Fyfe, and Jerry Larkin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ken was a loving and devoted family man. He was very close to his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours in the rinks with Shawn and Michael when they were playing competitive minor hockey and in recent years, following his grandchildren’s games and tournaments. He also loved attending his grandchildren’s concerts and piano recitals. Ken loved spending time at the cottage at Malagash Point with family and friends, especially on May 24 weekend for his “lobster fest”, in September for Octoberfest weekend and his annual golf get-together with his brothers Don, Norman and Allen and his brother-in-law, Jerry and his nephew Butch and the grand finale of the season, Thanksgiving Dinner with family and friends. Ken loved music and spent many hours playing his mandolin and banjo for his own enjoyment. Before his illness, Ken and Faye enjoyed many vacations in Florida and Nassau. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 11:00 am in St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax. Reception to follow at the Church Hall. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of 8.1, 8.4, Infirmary Site and 7A, Palliative Care, VG Site, who provided such compassionate care. Also our sincere thanks to the Home Care Palliative Care team, who made it possible for Ken to be at home for his last two weeks which he dearly wanted and enjoyed, and the VON.
