Julie Ann Carrol died peacefully at home after a short illness. Julie is survived by her partner of 30 years, Susan Covert, her brother William John “Don” (Joan) Carroll, nieces Kathy and Susie, cousins Tom Boyle (Janet (deceased)), Mike Boyle (Pat) and Ted Boyle (Miriam) and close members of Susan’s family. She was predeceased by her parents John and Claire (Craig) Carroll and her special aunt Marg Craig. Julie was proud to have spent her youth on Deacon St in the North End of Halifax.
She was associated with the Sisters of Charity where she made friends for life. She then decided to pursue a career in teaching, and obtained her B. A. from Dalhousie University followed by her B. Ed. From Mount Saint Vincent University. Julie taught for two years at Saint Catherine Elementary and thirty-two years at St. Pats High School ending her career as Head of the English Dept. She loved teaching and developed close relationships with her students, forming bonds that remain today. Julie spent a sabbatical year in Leeds, England where she obtained a Certificate in Education. Theater was a passion and while she was there, she managed to see 51 plays. It was during this time she met her English family and four generations later they are still an integral part of her family. Julie loved to travel and together with Susan had many happy adventures around the world. She was an avid photographer and happily chronicled her adventures in her blog and in photograph books she had published of each trip. Julie had a wicked sense of humour and could be a bit of a rascal at times with her quick wit and twinkling blue eyes. She loved ice cream, Purdy’s salted caramel chocolates, a good joke and especially New Zealand where she spent many happy holidays.
Her family thank her doctors Colin Hebb and Melissa Andrew, her nurse Mitch Devoe from palliative care and her caregiver Rebecca Mostoles.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Cruikshanks’s Halifax Funeral Home.
