Joan Loretta (McGrath) Dunbar

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, sister, and grandmother Joan. Born in Buchans, Newfoundland, to Mary Agnes Cole and Patrick Bernard McGrath, she died peacefully and surrounded by family, only days before her 92nd birthday.

She will be remembered for living each day to the fullest and for filling our lives with laughter and song. Joan was never happier than when playing the piano and regaling us with carols and traditional Newfoundland songs. A force to be reckoned with and a true and loyal friend, her energy and enthusiasm for life were inspirational.

Joan will be forever missed by her children Laurie (Guy Lavoie), Jane, and Michael (Monica MacKenzie). She will remain in the hearts of her sisters Carole Anne, Patricia, and Carmel, and her adored grandchildren Patrick, Ellen, Jon, and Leif. Special thanks to her caregiver Karen who, with Jane, made Joan’s last weeks heaven on earth. A deeply spiritual person, Joan is now with the angels, her many brothers and sisters, and her dearly beloved husband Cyril.
