EASTON, Janet Alicia “Janie”, 104, Halifax, quietly passed away at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Born in Halifax (Armdale), she was the daughter of the late Ella Jane (Piercey) and John Mont. She was the loving mother of Judy (Jim) Lindsay, Pointe-Claire, QC and son, Jan (West Vancouver); beloved Gram to Elspeth (David Bond), Sheila (Vaughn Nishimura) and Alastair (Heidi Ritter) Lindsay, and Anthony Easton. She delighted in great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Katarina and they in her. To her angel Carolyn and many other nieces and nephews she was “Aunt Janie”, her birthday parties as a centenarian being wonderful family occasions. She was a graduate of Dalhousie University and a dedicated teacher, first when teachers were required to resign upon marriage. Later, after the law was long gone, she taught in Wellington, and for many years in Lantz. She found much pleasure in gardening and artistic pursuits, and was an avid reader to the end of her days. Her curiosity was boundless. Her life was guided by a great sense of justice and consideration of others. The church was a cornerstone of her life, first at Bethany in Halifax, continuing during her fifty years in Elmsdale, and then again late in life at Bethany. She sang in the choir for some sixty years and was a life member of the UCW. She was predeceased by her husband, Con, her daughter Joanne (Joey), sisters, Bessie Redmond, Tina Redmond and Mary (Maidie)Mont; brothers, Charlie, Joe, Tom, George, Stirling “Bunny” and Mac. The family expresses grateful thanks to the staff at Parkstone for their expert and kindly care over the past two years. A service celebrating Janet’s long years will be held at Bethany United Church on Saturday, 2nd of February at 2 pm with a reception to follow in the church hall. Donations may be made to UNICEF, Red Cross Society, or to a charity of your choice. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
