I have been predeceased by my mother Eleanor Nicholl, sister Margery Jane Nicholl Wilkins, and nephew Trevor John Wilkins.
I am survived by nieces Seanda Lee Wilkins, (great-nephews Liam and Roan); Coby Veenendaal (Matt Portiss) (great-nieces Wrenna Beatrice and Sullivan Margery); Keira Hanaran (Mike) (twin great-nephews Beckett and Jack and niece Cora Jane).
Born in Halifax County, I spent my first 18 years in Yarmouth where my sister, Margery, and I lived with our adoptive family the Blackburns - Jenny, Susie, Lillian and Effie. They gave us a good start in life with their positive outlook that hard work would provide opportunities. They created a nurturing home that promoted belief in ourselves and gave us the encouragement to do all we could do to develop our talents.
My closest friend Ann MacDougall passed away from cancer at 33 yrs of age. The MacDougalls and Frasers have been my extended family and have been present in my life ever since. I am appreciative of the love and support given me by the MacDougalls (Charlie and Margaret.. Isabel, Mary, Arthur, Donald and Ann) and the Frasers (William, Mary, Andrew, Maryl (Andre), Glynis (Robert), and David (Sarah, Liam, Connor and Brody). Many summers and happy times were spent at their cottage on Roy's Island, Pictou County.
I wish to express my thanks to the chemo nurses on the VG 11th Floor for their kindness and compassion, to my family doctor, Dr. Hubert Benno Lang, my niece Seanda, and to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Also thanks to the Halifax Hospice for the excellent care I received.
There will be a Celebration of Life, the date and location details to follow on Snow’s Funeral Home's website. There you may see a video and a place to leave messages of condolences.
After receiving my Education degree from Dalhousie, I became a Physical Education Teacher for the Halifax District School Board for 35 years.
I coached the Halifax Saltos Gymnastics Club for 33 years.
I joined two music orchestras where I played the violin : The Caledonia Orchestra of Nova Scotia and also The Highland Heritage Scottish Society. Through my association with Fiddle, I attended the Gaelic College in Cape Breton where I was also introduced to piano accompaniment and Celtic Harp. I enjoyed attending Celtic Colours in October for the past 22 years. These musical ties took me on many exciting adventures playing with wonderful musicians and dear friends.
