Gordon Ernest Dickson

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gordon “Gordie” Ernest Dickson announces his sudden passing on January 6, 2023 at the age of 77. Gordie was the youngest son of Morton and Avis (Logan) Dickson.

Gordie was born deaf and communicated with others by lip-reading. In his younger years, Gordie worked for a denturist, he was employed as a dishwasher at a local restaurant, and he was a volunteer at Northwood. When his father, a Navy Veteran, was in Camphill veterans hospital, Gordie made daily visits there for years until his father’s passing.

Gordie was a kind, friendly, happy, young at heart guy who loved spending time with his family and making people laugh. He enjoyed collecting trains, cars, boats and navy memorabilia. Gordie loved anyone in uniform. He would often visit the police station, the fire station, or be chatting with the Commissioners. He was always helping out around Halifax by shoveling driveways, or collecting recyclables and could often be seen at the front door of Northwood greeting people as they entered. Most of all Gordie enjoyed Christmas, Halloween or any occasion where he could be with family and friends, wear funny hats and joke with people to make them smile.

Gordie is survived by his sister, Elaine Mulhall, Nieces, Linda, Susan, Cheryl, Heather, and Cathy. Nephew Tony, great nieces Haley, Taylor, and Larissa, and great nephew Graham. Gordie was pre-deceased by his parents, Morton and Avis(Logan) Dickson, his brother Wayne Dickson, his sister-in-law, Sharon Dickson and his brother-in-law, Brian Mulhall.

Gordie’s family would like to thank the staff and wonderful caregivers at Northwood Manor. A special Thank You to Nurse Helen who holds a special place in our hearts!

A memorial service will be held at JA Snow funeral home in May, date to be announced.
