Francis (Frank) A. Houlihan - 88 passed away peacefully on March 17,2013, in the Halifax Infirmary, QE II. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Claire, in 2010. Born in Halifax, Frank was the son of Edward J. Houlihan and Beatrice (Duggan) Houlihan.
Frank graduated from St. Mary's University, Halifax, with a Bachelor of Science, in 1951. He then worked as a technical officer at the Naval Dockyard in Halifax for many years; subsequently, he worked with his lifelong friend, Art Dean ( A.T. Dean and Associates) until his retirement. During his lifetime, Frank had been active as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts and the Canadian Red Cross, as well as in many parish activities within St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Halifax. Frank was an avid baseball and hockey fan and followed the New York Yankees and Toronto Maple Leafs with an especially keen interest.
Frank is survived by his five children: Frank (Leslie), Milton, ON.; Christopher, Montreal, QC.; Tim (Leona), Waverley, NS; Donna (Michael) McCormick, Halifax, NS; and Brian (Joanne), Hammonds Plains, NS; as well as by grandchildren Thomas, Laura, Anne Marie, Matthew, Katie, Benjamin, and Rowan. Frank is also survived by his brother Robert (Agnes), Halifax; and sister in law Gwen Houlihan, Dartmouth. Frank was also predeceased by his sister Geraldine, and by brothers Edward (Doris); William; and Gordon ( in childhood).
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Susan Ripley and the nursing staff of 8.4 in the Halifax Infirmary, for the care given to Frank while in hospital; as well as the staff of Aberdeen Hall - Parkland Estates.
The funeral mass will be held at 10am Thursday, March 21, at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Mumford Road with interment in Mt Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, B3S0E1 (455-0531)
