It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Mary “Faye” Flinn (Nana). Faye passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, January 6, 2020, after a nine-month battle with leukemia and just days after her 73rd birthday.
Faye grew up in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, with her parents, the late Tobie and Cecilia Baccardax and her siblings Don (Jean), Sally, her late sister Joan, Lorne (Lenette) and Peter (Sherry). Her special childhood bonds with her cousins Earl and Judy continued throughout her life. Her Godmother, Margaret Pottie, still resides in St. Peters, Nova Scotia.
Faye graduated from Mount Saint Bernard Medical Secretary Program in 1965 and found a job at the Old Infirmary after moving to Halifax. In that same year, she met a young medical resident named Roger Flinn. The two were married in 1968 and lived in Greenwood until settling in Dartmouth, where they raised their two sons. Mum enjoyed golfing with her family and painting landscapes and portraits for family and friends. More than anything, Mum loved being a mother and Nana to her grandchildren.
Faye enjoyed many life-long friendships and appreciated the outpouring of support over the last year. She, along with the entire family, appreciated all the quality care provided by the hematology nurses and doctors whose dedication, skills and heart lightened her burden.
Faye is survived by her sons Craig (Jaqueline Ruck) and Jason (Caroline); grandchildren Jack, Charlie and Lily Flinn and Hudson Ruck.
Faye is predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Roger. They are reunited again in God’s everlasting peace.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am Saturday, January 11, at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax NS. Pastor John Wilton will preside over the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
