Emily Jessica (Oberek) Mazzorana, 89, died peacefully on Saturday, December 26th, 2015 at The Magnolia in Enfield, NS, where she spent her final years. Born in Ottawa, Ont., on October 31st, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Violet (Skrypek) Oberek. Emily was a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, where she received her degree. During her long teaching career, she taught Math, Science and English, and tutored and guided students of all ages. She continued to tutor students long after her retirement. Education was her passion, and she changed many lives over the years.
Most of her life was lived between Toronto, Ont., and Rome, Italy, but her husband’s work for Alitalia also took them to places as diverse as Athens, Greece, and Ndola, Zambia. She had great stories to tell of her travels and adventures.
Emily is survived by her son, Dario (Rebecca) of Halifax, and her two grandchildren, Delia and Matteo, both of Halifax. She was predeceased in 2002 by Aldo Mazzorana, her husband of 43 years, and by her younger brother Edward (Ed) Oberek in 1975.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, Bayers Road, Halifax NS.
Sincere thanks to all the staff at The Magnolia, especially the staff at Sunflower Cottage. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.
