Eileen Mildred Sponagle (Baker)-Halifax, Age 95, Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Northwood Manor. Born in Marie Joseph, Guysborough Co, April 8, 1929. Eileen was the youngest daughter of the late Abram and Carrie (Murphy) Baker. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Harold, her daughter Beverley (Dennis LeRue), son-in-law Kenny Conrad (Linda), three grandchildren, Jason (Amanda Frost), Tracy (Jim Power), Nicole (Jason Palanuik), great-grandsons Tyler and Grayson, step great-grandsons Cooper and Ben and many wonderful nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her daughter Diane in 2004, her brothers; Bridgeman, Gerald (Kaye), Osborne (Grace), Weldon (Prudence), Calvin (Florence), Clem (Evelyn), Roland (Phyllis), sisters; Viola (Bernie) Chambers and Louise (Tom) Williamson. Her brothers-in-law; Byron (Mabel), Edwin, Morton (Hazel), and Robert and sisters-in-law; Alberta (Ken) Smith, Doris (Charles) Hudson, Irene (Neil) McDonald, Ina Sponagle, Olive (Gerry) Christianson, and Mabel (John) Walker.
Over the years Eileen worked at Moirs Chocolates, Morse’s Tea, Eastern Drugs, and Sears. In her younger years Eileen loved to have her family near and hosted many family dinners. She was known for her delicious pan fried haddock. Her and Harold’s door was always open as a home away from home for many of their nieces, nephews and other family who resided with them while attending university and first jobs. Special thanks to Dr. Conter and Dr. MacGregor. A very heartfelt and warm thank-you to the wonderful nurses and staff of 10 Manor-Northwood who made Eileen’s last 3 years so comfortable and full of compassion and friendships. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. at J.A. Snow’s funeral home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, N.S. A reception to follow immediately after the service. A private family Burial will be held in the summer at St. Matthews Cemetery in Marie Joseph, N.S.
