Born on January 26, 1928 in Saulnierville, NS, she was the daughter of the late Phillipe and Adèle (Saulnier) Amirault. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom loved all children and animals. She spent many years babysitting children in our home while we grew up on Willow Street where we have so many fond memories.
After Dad’s death in 1998, Mom enjoyed many outings with her dear cousin Aline and family. They could often be found at Frenchys. They enjoyed going to restaurants, especially for an Acadian dish “rappie pie”, and they regularly travelled back “down home”. Merci beaucoup Aline.
Mom beat cancer at 91 years old. Sadly, in her final years a once brilliant and strong, independent woman would struggle with dementia. She went to her new home at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home in 2023 where she resided on the 5th floor until her death, embraced by their incredible kindness and caring. Her memories of “down home” and her family never left her. A special mention to Gloria, whom Mom shared a table with at Saint Vincent’s everyday, we looked forward to seeing you as well whenever we visited with Mom.
We want to thank all the staff at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, they touched our hearts with their kindness and love for Mom, they were like a family to her, we will never forget them. It meant a lot to us to have Mom return to Saint Vincent’s to continue her end of life journey.
To all the staff at the QEII emergency and the Paramedics – we could not have asked for any better care. Every single person we encountered went out of their way to ensure Mom was comfortable and that we were all informed. Thank you for all your care, kindness and guidance.
And finally, there are not enough words to thank our brother Philip and his wife Karen for welcoming Mom into their new home after Dad’s death where she lived for 24 years in the special place they built just for her. We will be forever grateful to you both.
Mom is survived by her children, Collette (Wayne Snow), Simone, Philip (Karen), Marcel (Teressa); grandchildren, Ryan, Holly, Matthew & Madeleine. And many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edouard (Eddie), her sister Estelle (Gustave Comeau), her brother Eddie Amirault (Ruth) and her brother Felix in infancy.
