With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Donna Yvonne Stokes (née Rogers), of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Donna passed away peacefully, at home, the evening of February 13, 2020, following a brave, lengthy battle with cancer.
Mrs. Stokes graduated as a Registered Nurse, from the Halifax Children's Hospital, in 1960. She worked in this profession until she had her own family, subsequently working full-time as a Mother and Homemaker, and part-time Executive Assistant.
Living in various cities across Canada, family summer camping vacations were a highlight, and cross-country skiing was a regular family weekend event in winters. Donna & Cedric loved to travel, visiting more than 15 countries throughout the Caribbean and Europe. In their retirement, they purchased a cottage, which became their treasured happy place until Cedric's passing. Donna spent every summer at the lake with family, swimming, boating, gardening, hiking and enjoying wildlife and nature. Most of all, Donna adored her grand-children, and steeped them both in the beauty and fascination of nature.
Donna is survived by her children, Gregory Stokes (Theresa), Kingston, NS; Christine Wall (Shane), Halifax, NS; her sisters, Jean Miller (Gordon), Halifax, NS; Helen Hartling, Ottawa, ON; her grand-children, Logan Wall & Jackson Wall; many nieces and nephews; and her loving companion, Roy Martin. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Nelly (Bell) Rogers; her brothers, Norman Rogers, Robert Rogers, and Lorne Rogers; and her husband of 40 years, Cedric A. Stokes, who passed in 2000.
Cremation has taken place. Donations in her memory may be made to Plan International (previously Foster Parents Plan), or the Canadian Cancer Society.
